I would like you to turn your attention now to the bride Cathy who im sure you will all agree looks one in a million today as opposed to Alan who looks like he was won in a raffle. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is John and I’m Alan’s best mate. What can you say about a man who came from humble beginnings, a man who is now quickly rising to the very top of his profession based solely on intelligence, grit and the willpower to push on where others have fallen. A man who is beginning to distinguish himself at the very highest level amongst his peers, and where none can say a bad word against him? But enough about me, what I`m really here for this afternoon is to talk about Alan. As the best man I decided it was only right that I take this huge responsibility seriously, so I have spent long sleepless nights searching the internet and reading books and now understand my duties to be; To ensure that the groom arrives on time, sober, and looking good Well 2 out of 3 isn’t bad. After all I’m best man, not a plastic surgeon! In one of the books I read there was a list of things I should and should not say in my speachhere goes; Well failing that I have some words of advice on marriage for you here Alan: Someone once said that marriage is a 50/50 partnership, but anyone who believes that clearly knows nothing about women or fractions! To help the course of true love run smoothly never forget those three very important words you must say every day. you’re right dear. I have been asked by Alan and Cathy to thank you all for coming and the gifts that you have so generously donated. I must say I struggled to decide what to get, I wanted to give Alan something he genuinely needed, but it’s such a struggle to figure out how to wrap a bath! Alan and Cathy have also asked me to thank the staff at the Liner hotel for helping them with their special day, I’m sure you will agree that it has been lovely. I have known Alan now for a long time and I will honestly say that he has never looked happier. Alan and I met at work in Hardacres, I know a few of the lads are around today and don’t worry I’ll keep all my embarrassing stories focused on Alan, like the time he fell face first in to the grave or the time he and I’ll never forget the time he bent over the hearse and we all heard this Rip right in front on the mourners.big split right down the middle of his kecksOh wait no forget that last story!! So to wrap this up, I’d just like to say that marriage is not about finding someone you can live with, it’s about finding someone you can’t live without. ‘I’m ceded †I’ve stopped being Theirs-‘(Emily Dickinson) Essay

The theme of Poem 508 Im ceded Ive stopped being Theirs- is the exploration of the narrators growth from childhood to adulthood, through the development of spiritual consciousness. The reader is immediately made aware that the narrator has undergone a dramatic change. With the use of the word ceded, there is the sense that something has been given away. It is usually territory that is the object of this verb and so its unusual application to a person captures the readers attention. Furthermore, it is punctuated by Dickinsons familiar dash which isolates and emphasises it as if it were followed by an exclamation mark. This expression appears to be an exclamation of relief to be freed from the obligations of the expectations of her parents and this interpretation is supported by her statement -Ive stopped being Theirs-. This is a strong, almost defiant statement, which seems to be a declaration of liberation and individual existence and identity. The forced caesura created by the use of dashes on either side of the statement indicates a rupture. The use of ceded makes it sound as if it is not a person who is being discussed and the sense of the impersonal is further developed in the way that Dickinson refers to The name. The narrator is not taking ownership of the name and emphasises this with is finished using now, implying it was temporarily borrowed. Similarly, the narrator does not take ownership of the spirituality of the Baptism They dropped upon my face. The narrator does not regard it as holy, thereby rejecting the sense of divinity. The narrators childhood is finished And They can put it with my Dolls,. In this phase of life she has no use for the toys. Equally she has no use for The name. It is noticeable that name is not capitalised illustrating its lack of importance for the narrator. In this first stanza, there is also the rejection of and moving on from the string of spools, and threading which are typically womanly pursuits. The narrator used to obediently follow such activities but she daringly declares her rejection of traditional, female roles. The dashes on either side of too give this declaration an anxious, breathless quality, further indicating the narrators audacity. In the second stanza, the reader is alerted to the narrators development and growth; it transcends beyond the physical development of the child to adult,  to the spiritual development culminating into her entering into a covenant with God. The narrator is aware that to have been Baptized, before, without the choice does not have significance. The Baptism before is the imposition of her parents beliefs and values. By rejecting their religious beliefs, the narrator is also rejecting their name and the imposition of feminine activities, thus asserting herself as a strong, adult woman who is free to make her own choices. As in Poem 324 Some keep the Sabbath going to Church-, Dickinson emphasises the importance of choice; in Poem 508, the narrator objects to her parents values and beliefs, together with the religious expression of the community. Similarly, in Poem 324, the narrator rejects the way in which the majority of people choose to observe the Sabbath, preferring to keep it, staying at Home-. The Poem ends with the narrator stating So instead of getting to Heaven, at last -/ Im going, all along. This seems to pre-empt the ending of Poem 508, in which the narrator concludes I choose, just a Crown-, showing that through the course of both poems, Dickinson grapples with the issue of religious belief and its expression, arriving at the conclusion that she will engage with religion in her own way, indicating that both Dickinson and the narrator have grown by the end of the poems. Paradoxically, in her sonnet Tears Elizabeth Barrett Browning, whose poetry influenced Dickinson, talks about an unconscious refusal to grow. She advocates that the reader look up! †¦ And leave the vision clear for stars, yet she seems to be refusing to do so herself preferring to keep hold of her grief for fear of again losing what she mourn s for. The narrators second Baptism contrasts dramatically with her first, this time, consciously, of Grace-; her spiritual growth is evident. Gods Grace allows the narrator salvation from Original Sin. By choosing freely to participate in a second Baptism, the narrator is embracing a religious and spiritual life and is Called to my Full. It appears that she is undergoing an epiphany. Through this transcendent experience, the narrator is completed, connecting with the spirituality of God. With the use of supremest, Dickinson is able to convey both God as the Supreme Being and the supreme name bestowed upon the narrator by Gods Grace. By referring to her small Diadem filling up Existences whole Arc, the narrator suggests that her  soul has expanded, thus demonstrating her spiritual growth. In the third and final stanza, Dickinson contrasts the life of her narrator pre-epiphany, with that post-epiphany. My second Rank too small the first- Dickinson makes the reader aware of the enormous impact that the epiphany has had on the narrator. In the previous stanza, Dickinson described how the narrator filled up, and now she allows the reader to see how it has influenced her life, through the direct comparison between the size of her existence before the epiphany and the size of it afterwards. With her words, she creates a picture of the repression of her childhood, symbolising this with the half unconscious Queen- on her Fathers breast. In holding the narrator to him, her father is simultaneously protecting her and repressing her. Dickinsons earlier denunciation of [Their] values, along with her final declaration of the right to choose illustrates a Romantic desire to be herself. Dickinson clearly believes that her first Baptism lacked significance, due to her unconscious state. This time however, the narrator is said to be Erect; literally she is no longer a baby who is unable to stand, and needs the support of her Fathers breast. Furthermore it is a strong visual image, symbolising her full adult status. The narrator has clearly grown through the course of Poem 508; physically she has grown from a baby to a strong, independent woman, yet more importantly, she has grown spiritually. The narrator has been selected by God to be saved from Original Sin and the magnitude and significance of this cannot be overstated. It is evident from many of her poems that Dickinson despises the way in which the Calvinist community placed a greater importance on religious ceremony than on the meaning behind it. The narrator therefore appears grateful that God has recognised her inner spirituality over the ostentatious actions of others which can lack sincerity. The narrators contemplation throughout the poem results in her coming to a conclusion at the end. This is reflected by the rhyme scheme of the poem; whilst the first and second stanzas lack an apparent rhyming sequence, Dickinson employs rhyme and off-rhyme in the third stanza, demonstrating a subtle movement towards a more harmonious existence, thus ending with the optimistic sense of growth. Secondly, customers were also on a tighter budget and reluctant to spend because of concerns about the economy, including the slowing housing market and tight credit. It is notable that sales increased 2.7% at Walmart, which relentlessly slashed its prices, thereby gaining favor with consumers who are anxious about the economy and have tightened their purse strings. (Barbaro, 2008). Thirdly, another reason cited for the slowdown in sales especially in women’s clothing is the complaint about dreary fashions. Since men’s clothing registered a 2.3 percent rise in sales, the reasons for specific declines in the women’s category could be lack of appealing fashions. However, it app ears that the tightening of purse strings of consumers may be largely caused by the condition of the economy. 2. A truly agile supply chain requires a fast and appropriate response to fluctuating customer demand. Especially in the case of fashion oriented products, market responsive supply chains are focused on speed and flexibility, rather than on saving costs (Aitken et al, 2002). However, in this instance, it appears that major retailers were unable to reach profitable levels because they were not able to respond effectively to customer volatility in demand and could only produce dreary fashions which were not inspiring enough for customers to purchase. Therefore, what was need was a higher level of responsiveness to customer tastes and demand, in producing fashions which would generate sales. 3. The most important reason for Walmart’s increase in sales was its relentless slashing of prices early in the holiday season, which helped to address consumer anxiety about the economy. Despite lack of fashions, the low prices could have been the spur for customers to purchase apparel from this retailer. The retailer featured heavy discounts every weekend throughout November and the low prices attracted customers to shop there. Most of the other stores retailers showing profits were also discount stores such as TJX, BJ, Costco and Ross stores. The department store Saks and specialty retailers Aeropostale, Pacific Sun wear and Children’s place posted stores, as did all the drug stores. The other discount stores may have shown a profit because they sold items other than clothing, and customer sales of electronics goods increased, as also the sale pf pharmaceutical products. At Saks and the specialty stores, high priced footwear items registered high sales, also being no n apparel items. These small stores may have shown a profit due to higher volume of sales by high income groups. 4. Due to the decline in sales, most of the retailers being forced to offer huge discounts, would end up selling their goods at cost price or even lower than cost price, which would produce a loss. The margin of profits is drastically reduced and when selling at cost price, the profit levels are zero, thus allowing no room for the retailers to accommodate their expenses and producing a net loss. Therefore, the gross margin of profits has fallen drastically due to the need to mark down prices, allowing little margin for any profits to accrue to the retailers. 5. The retailers could make the offer of buy-one-get-one-free, to induce customers to not only purchase goods, thereby disposing of stocks, but also reducing the inventories at the same time by clearing out two items with every single purchase. Another option the retailers could follow is to offer large discounts on bulk purchases of goods – for example by slashing the prices by about 50% for the customer who purchases six sweaters at a time. This would attract budget conscious customers who also want items of value. The last alternative is for the retailers to offer the unsold garments at nominal cost as part of a package offer with the purchase of other goods, such as footwear for instance, so that a customer who purchases such an item is able to receive some of the unsold stock and in this way, the retailers can clear out their inventories. They could also consider refurnishing some of the garments by dyeing them in other colors, or making some minor changes in designs to o ffer a more appealing range of products to fashion conscious customers. 6. Since the economy is still in a somewhat depressed state with tight credit and rise in housing prices, it appears unlikely that customers who did not purchase goods during the Christmas season will increase purchases in the spring. The supply chain which is responsive to customer demand needs to be one that provides for greater visibility throughout the supply chain, by fully exploiting information and technology through cooperation and collaboration between the various organizations within a corporation (Harrison and Hoek, 2002). The retailers must therefore arrange for better coordination and integration of information flows between customers, and their production and distribution systems so that the kind of products they produce reflect customer needs. The items may also need to be priced within a more moderate range in order to take into account the conditions of the economy and the tighter control over purse strings exerted by customers. As a result, what is required is great er responsiveness to customer requirements and lower prices in order to boost sales during the spring season. Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Disarmament-Free-Samples for Students

Question: Critically Discuss the risks and options for Controlling Nuclear Weapons with regards to the North Korean Peninsula. Be sure to mention the Non Proliferation Treaty. Answer: The default assumption that has been made by most non-government, academic and government organization is that extension of all the efforts should be towards ensuring the preservation of the international non-proliferation regime, despite its structural weakness and shortcomings.[1] There, however, remain little proof of the fact that that the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the instruments subsidiary to it have been successful in preventing the spread of the capabilities of the nuclear weapons[2]. There is also no foundation on the basis of which an assumption can be made that it future there will be any progress in what will be a global strategic environment that is even more challenging. It's essential to develop new control arrangements for arms that reflect the fact that there can only be management and not nuclear proliferation. In this essay, I will be focusing on the North Korean Peninsula and the risk of and options for controlling nuclear weapons. What needs to be understood i n the onset of this essay that nuclear disarmament is a utopian idea that is difficult to achieve and what we need to begin with is a system that is multipolar for nuclear deterrence.[3] The only country which withdrew from the Non-proliferation Treaty for openly pursuing a program for a Nuclear weapon was North Korea. The nuclear capabilities of North Korea are viewed by many as a threat that is extremely serious to the neighbors of the country and the international community as a whole. The events of 2010 raised various questions regarding the deterrence on the Korean Peninsula and what the response of the allied should be towards North Korea that would be appropriate. It was argued by the United States and South Korea that a response that was robust was called for of the recent provocations by the North Korea and it was essential to deter the regime from any further acts of aggression. It was argued by the experts in South Korea that the proactive deterrence policy of President Lee was essential for ensuring that there shall not be tolerance of the provocations by North Korea Indefinitely.[5] It was added that there would be three messages that would be sent by this policy to the north. First that if there is another attack there will be proportionate retaliation by South Korea; Second that although a war is not something that South Korea wants, however, if it is inevitable it will not avoid one; and Third that the alliance with the United States by South Korea wil l strengthen continuously beyond the deadline 2015 for the transferring from the U.S. to the ROK Command of the wartime operational control.[6]There, however, was not a complete agreement on the new policy of "proactive deterrence" of Seoul by all the participant of IFPA Workshop. It was argued by one of the American participants that there are various reasons that this new policy could prove to be dangerous.[7] It could among them lead to political hostage of President Lee to North Korea's future provocations by being forced to either retaliate or else risk the loss of his credibility. There would also be a binding on the policy makers in U.S. to any action that would be taken by President Lee in response to another attack, without taking an approach that is more co-ordinated and alliance oriented on the next provocation. The potential for there being an escalation is much higher in this situation. A method of deterrence that could be used would be Amplifying of the preparedness of the military, in conjunction with South Korea and the Allies of the forces that are facing North Korea. There could be more exercises, drills, soldier deployment, aircraft, and vessels. The THAAD system of air defense by missile can be chosen to be expanded.[9] Although there can be tricking with decoys, outflanking by launches of the submarine or overwhelming, it offers, a type of defense, in theory, against some type of missiles though not the ones that are intercontinental.[10] The main risk that exists with this type of approach is that it will lead both China and North Korea to rattle even louder their sabers. Although the chances that an international war may be caused by these events that are planned, the risks for the events that are unplanned caused by anger that is uncontrollable, accidents, paranoia or mistakes makes it a situation that is one of the most dangerous which humanity has faced since the time that it had a nuclear war almost in 1962 in Cuba.[11] Another option available is that of tightening of sanction, this might bring North Korea to come to the table for negotiations as it was done with other countries that were acting in the international community's defiance. Since 2006, the United Nations has been trying to implement various sanctions on North Korea. These have ranged from banning luxury goods and military supplies import to them to having shut North Korea out from the global financial system and putting a ban with few exemptions on coal, iron and precious metal. A third of exports from North Korea will be affected by the sanctions that were passed in the last round. This ban and sanction method of controlling North Korea is not the best option mainly due to two reasons. The First being that it is quite impossible to obtain desired sanctions that are comprehensive because some countries, such as China which accounts for about 85% of the trade with North Korea, will not be willing to push down as hard as that upon some of its allies. Second, even if there could be an agreement from China that it would apply sanctions of the highest level there is no guarantee that the government of North Korea would be affected by it. In 2014 this country was accused of crimes of murder, extermination, torture, enslavement, rape, imprisonment, political persecution, forced abortion, grounds of gender and race, prolonged starvation and person disappearance that was enforced. North Korea government would not have much issue with weathering issues such as that of famine for the sake of achieving political goals which are long term. These sanctions will only lead to a nother dead end in the process. The third option that is available is that of negotiations and talks to be undertaken with Kim Jong-un. These talk could be about the conclusion of a peace treaty for the last war in Korea that had ended in 1953 with a truce.[13] There could be a number of confidence-building measures that a peace treaty could be supplemented with, such as scaling back on the exercise of the military, taking steps towards the ending of the isolation of North Korea and removal of the missile shield. There could be some weight that could be carried in the promises that are made to North Korea of non-intervention however, it cannot be guaranteed that it would be all that would be required. The fear that Kim Jong-un would have is that if he gave up the weapons of mass-destruction that he has there is a risk that he would be suffering the same fate that was suffered by the dictators of Syria, Iraq, and Libya.[15] The security of his country would also be threatened and the country might have to face the same situation as Ukraine next to Russia after giving up their nuclear weapons with a promise that the sovereignty of the country would be respected. Meaning thereby that it would have to be accepted that North Korea will continue to hold the nuclear at least for a period of time. This would prove detrimental to the international community as other countries like Japan, South Korea may in all possibilities also try to seek similar rights for themselves. This option is something that would completely destroy the efforts across the globe of ensuring a nuclear non-proliferation and would certainly chronically upset the power balance in the said part of the world.
