Phishing, spam, malware, and other online threats are just the tip of the iceberg. Not that the internet is a terrible place in fact, its a great place to find information and connect with people. However, its greatness is also what makes it dangerous. Lots of people are taking advantage of the naivete of other users which causes online threats to become more widespread. Youve already equipped yourself with the best security tools to prevent viruses and malware from infecting your CPU. You also know how to identify what spam is and how to avoid it. The next step is to take your online protection further by subscribing to a VPN. In this post, you will learn what a virtual private network is and what the benefits of VPN are in your professional and personal online life. The benefits of VPN to boost your web security even more Before we jump to the benefits of VPN, we need to understand what it is and how it works. VPN stands for virtual private network. The VPN server encrypts your data from the internet service provider (ISP) or WiFi you are connected to. It obfuscates your personally identifiable information, in particular, your IP address and location. What your ISP will see is the information provided by the VPN server, whatever that may be. So what makes VPN special as opposed to browsing the web without one? Below are the differences and its benefits: 1. Enhanced security The websites you visit store information about you using their analytics and tracking software. While sites use the data they gather from visitors to make their websites perform better, others may have other ideas with how they plan to use the information. They might sell it to a third-party provider and it leaves you vulnerable for whatever thats coming your way. With a VPN, websites wont be able to gather accurate information about your online activity. They will still consider you as a visitor, but you will be considered as an anonymous user since your real information is encrypted by the VPN you are using. As a result, you can enjoy surfing the web without websites gathering your data and using said information for reasons beyond your control. 2. Unblock websites Lets say youre an expat assigned to China. After days of staying there, you want to catch up with your family and friends back home. You want to use Facebook assuming most of your friends are they. However, upon typing in the URL, you found out that you cant access the site because of geo-blocking. You can still reach out to them in different ways but you dont have the option of talking to them on Facebook. Aside from China, there are other countries that censor Facebook and prevents people from using it. .IRPP_button , .IRPP_button .postImageUrl , .IRPP_button .centered-text-area { min-height: 86px; position: relative; } .IRPP_button , .IRPP_button:hover , .IRPP_button:visited , .IRPP_button:active { border:0!important; } .IRPP_button { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #3498DB; } .IRPP_button:active , .IRPP_button:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .IRPP_button .postImageUrl { background-position: center; background-size: cover; float: right; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 30%; } .IRPP_button .centered-text-area { float: left; width: 70%; padding:0; margin:0; } .IRPP_button .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: inherit; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; letter-spacing: .125em; margin: 0; padding: 0; } .IRPP_button .postTitle { color: #ECF0F1; font-size: 16px; fon t-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .IRPP_button .ctaButton { background: #ECF0F1; color: inherit; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; margin: 18px 14px 18px 14px; moz-border-radius: 3px; padding: 12px 0; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; webkit-border-radius: 3px; width: 80px; position: absolute; } .IRPP_button:hover .ctaButton { background: #e6e6e6; } .IRPP_button .centered-text { display: table; height: 86px; padding:0; margin:0; padding-left: 108px!important; top: 0; } .IRPP_button .IRPP_button-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 10px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .IRPP_button:after { content: "; display: block; clear: both; } READHow do Online Game Servers work? This is where a VPN comes in handy. From the VPN server, it changes your IP address and geolocation in the eyes of the websites you visit. Inst ead of seeing Chinas IP address, the websites will see the IP address from a different country and location. Because of this, you can use Facebook to connect with your network even if you live in a country that blocks Facebook! Another use case of VPN is with streaming sites. For instance, there is content in US Netflix that you cant view outside the country. Due to licensing deals of these shows and movies, the number of content available in each country varies. However, if you want all Netflix content at your fingertips then you will have to go to the US and watch there. While that would be expensive, a cheaper alternative is to use a VPN to get American Netflix in your country. 3. Better connectivity For businesses and organization, having stable lines of communications online is a big part of their operations. Instead of people converging to a single room and spend hours of their day sitting on a chair, they can hold a video conference call. Not only is it more environment-friendly (no need to travel using public transportation or vehicles just log in and youre there) but it encourages everyone to be more productive. Another issue with business and their online connection is file sharing. This rings true if they have large and copious amounts of files shared around with co-workers and employees. A VPN enables you to develop a process conducive to sharing and storing a file in a secure location so you can access everything in a single place. Setting up a VPN for this purpose requires you to hire an IT professional who will set up and maintain the VPN. But if file sharing is vital in the success of your business, then you should shoulder the costs and build your business the right way. Did the benefits of VPN show you the way? VPN is useful from a professional and personal standpoint. It helps you forego geo-restrictions and gives full access to all websites and their content. A VPN also creates a safer environment for people to conduct their business so they can focus on growing their revenue instead of worrying about the technical details. More importantly, VPN provides an additional layer of security online so you can prevent hackers from accessing your information. From the reasons above, the benefits of VPN should convince you to get one for personal and professional use.

Beauty When The Other Dance Is The Self - 1642 Words

Beauty can be viewed in a variety of ways for many different people. Society has made a huge impact on the way people view and think of one another. Since the media has created a specific definition of beauty, people begin to see others in a different light. Those who are considered the â€Å"other† are those who the society and media have not deemed beautiful. Into the abyssmarquis de sade and the enlightenmen Essay tMarquis de Sade and the EnlightenmentWe are no guiltier in following the primitive impulses that govern us than is the Nile for her flood or the sea for her waves La MettrieThe eighteenth century embraced a secularized France in which the idea of utility, and not of salvation, were the principles by which one lived. Nature and reason in many ways replaced God. What this change left however, was a vacuum for the motive of morality in society. What would compel men to behave if not an omnipresent and all-powering God? The utilitarian idea that the greatest pleasure for the greatest good was able to reconcile the concept of a society questioning her religion but still looking to affirm her old values and moral codes. Many enlightened thinkers like Montesquieu argued for an emphasis on social, over individual welfare, and presented it as a solution left open by this vacuum. This concept eventually evolved to a redefinition of morality in general. Prior, morality and social laws were frigid and prone to the dictums of the Church. Now, they were accountable to general society, and not the individuals demands. Voltaire writes, Virtue and vice, moral good and evil, is then in any country what is useful or harmful to societyVirtue is the habit of doing those things which please men, and vice the habit of doing those things which displease men. Consequentially, virtue and vice were not set in stone decrees, but rather arbitrary notions assigned to the whims of society. This idea left no universal law of good and evil. The right of the individual to pursue pleasure and his notions of right and wrong were secondary to his obligation to society. Voltaire explains, To be good only for oneself is to be good for nothing. Rousseau also argued that the ambition of the individuals particular desire be curbed to that of general societies. He writes, The vices and virt ues of each man are not relative to him alone. Their greatest relation is with society, and what they are in regard to the general order constitutes their essence and their character.Helvitius deemed that society could determine what was moral and immoral according to what suited it best, he whose strongest passion is so much in conformity with the general interest, that he is almost always necessarily determined to be virtuous. The idea that moral codes were subject to judgment of society indicated it fickleness and changing nature. If morality was obliged and subject to society, than it was also a social construct. These distinctions were essential. The idea of utility, of welfare and happiness, was the new code that directed enlightened thought. Yet, the concept of happiness as a fundamental priority in ones life inevitably led to the idea of hedonism. If the individual pursuit of happiness were what was to motivate ones life, than the concepts of virtue and morality would become secondary since they often conflicted. Hence, the idea that one should seek happiness in kin to society rather than for oneself was vital in ceasing the moral anarchy that would otherwise follow. Lester Crocker explains, To those whom morals and virtue were themselves vital, as distinguished from the goal of happiness, it seemed the sole possibility of preserving those values against the corrosion of nihilism.DHolbarch and Helvitius offered explanations that would be able to deter this line of thinking. They argued that it was only out of self-interest that people would be motivated to act in conformity with society, We love virtue only for what selfish good it can bring us.This concept of enlightened self-interest reconciled the idea of utility and nature, acting in ones own self-interests, and therefore the greater good of society. .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 , .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .postImageUrl , .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 , .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6:hover , .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6:visited , .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6:active { border:0!important; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6:active , .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6 .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u53f3d0f690133d4e77f629e16ee95ce6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Enders Game EssayThe concept of enlightened self-interest, of selfless selfishness, was bound, however, to be attacked. Rousseau articulates his disagreement, What is useful to the public is scarcely ever introduced except by force, since private interests are always almost opposed to it.Rousseau argued, quite convincingly, that the individual desires of man usually conflicted with that of society, yet, one was still obliged to subordinate oneself to society and live a moral life. In Emile Rousseau explains,
